The Adnyamathanha Traditional Land Association
ATLA

The Adnyamathanha Traditional Land Association (ATLA), is the peak body of the Adnyamathanha people.

It was set up to be the only legal body to deal with all matters relating to land, Native Title and heritage.

ATLA membership comprises all Adnyamathanha organisations, family groups and individuals and as such they have a voice within ATLA and are also bound by the rules and decisions of ATLA

Vince Coulthard has been the Chairperson of ATLA
for the past 10 years.

He has been elected to this position
by the Adnyamathanha people each year.

The ATLA AGM in April 2008 voted unanimously to do whatever it takes to stop the sale of Angepena to Operation Flinders.

They also voted unanimously to support the Chairperson totally in his dealings with the Angepena issue.

In doing this the Adnyamathanha people have again underlined the importance of this property to their cultural survival.

There are sacred and significant sites all over Angepena that must be protected.

There are only 13 that are registered with the Aboriginal Affairs Department but there are many, many more.

Angepena is vital to the cultural and spiritual survival of the Adnyamathanha people.
